The ancient way of life, Pashtun culture is based on Pashtunwali. Pashtun culture has its own specifications of language and clothing. At the time of Herodotus or Alexander the Great, Pashtun culture is highlighted due to its characteristics. The Pashtun culture has retained a degree of purity, over the ages. The beautiful land of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has great importance in Pashtun culture. The beauty of this land increases its tourism, which increases the Pashtun culture among others.  Special events and holidays of
Pashtun culture include Eid vacations, Independence day etc.  Their festivals and different traditions in events show Pashtun culture. Traditional Pashto music and dance is favourite among people in the Pashtun culture. Pashto poetry has its own importance in Pashtun culture. Sports in Pashtuns culture is Buzkashi and polo, which are very much traditional. Their large variety of dishes in cusine shows great Pashtun culture. Pashtuns have a specific way of living a life, which shows a great impact on Pashtun culture. The beauty of climate, attract other people to have increased in Pashtun culture in many other ways.


Pashtun culture Intro

One of the four administrative provinces of Pakistan, known as North-West Frontier Province is located in the North-Western region along with borders of Afghanistan, shows its Pashtun culture of Pashtuns people which are 17.9% of the population. Pashtun culture has been a major theatre of militancy and terrorism. Third-largest province of Pakistan by the size of both population and economy, Pashtun culture has its own importance geographically. The word Khyber Pakhtunkhwa means “Land of Pashtuns”, which shows the Pashtun culture traditions and society. The Province is so named due to its ethnic Pashtun culture, which has its own way and style of living a life. Peshawar is the capital and largest city of this province.KPK has the third-largest provincial economy in Pakistan, which leads its importance of forestry. Agriculture remains their main occupation, which also represents Pashtun culture. Their cash crops are tobacco, wheat, maize and especially fruits are grown in this province.

Music

Rubab Music
Folk music ( Hindko & Pashto) is very much popular in Pashtuns culture. Rubab, Mangey and Harmonium are the popular instruments used in Pashtuns culture. Popular folk music is Khower in Swat and Chitral. Khatak dance, Attan dance, Mehsud attan dance and Waziri dance are famous and traditional dances in Pashtuns culture.


cuisine

Their kitchen and cuisine show great diversity in Pashtuns culture especially the famous “Qabili Pulao”. Use of fruits and dry nuts is essential in Pashtun culture. Their drinks like kehwa and tea have their own special taste which beautifies the Pashtun culture.






Dressing

Their dressing also represents Pashtun culture as men wear shalwar kameez with turban which is the symbol of honour for them and the Pakol is usually used by men as traditional headgear. The famous footwear of Pathans is Peshawari Chappal, which is a part of the Pashtun culture.



The attractive feature of Pashtun culture is to live a life of the joint family system, which shows great love and cares for everyone. Pashtun culture also includes the Jirga system, which is used as a court for criminal offences.
